10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
Talk & Play or Big Backyard
Each week, we will cover topics that help us take care of our minds and bodies. Take Care Tuesdays happen on the porch outside the museum shop, so it is free to the public. The first three rotations include:
- June 9 The Chill-Out Lab: is a calming, interactive space where children can explore tools to understand their feelings and support their bodies. Through movement, sensory play, and quiet moments, children are invited to notice what they need and discover ways to feel safe, focused, and ready to play. Rooted in neuroscience, this space empowers children to build emotional awareness and regulation skills and empowers parents to find the regulation tools most suited for their child.
- June 16 “Where Do Your Feelings Live?”: Parents will trace their children’s bodies and make body sensation maps. Children will match emotions with body sensations and add what makes them feel safe/sad/angry/etc. As we add to our body maps, we will discover that every feeling has a need and learn how to implement strategies to meet children’s emotional needs. Parents, caregivers, and educators will leave with a better understanding of children’s behaviors and resources on how to support them.
- June 23 Family Fitness: Fun recess games and exercises to build strength and endurance. We will jump rope, run laps, count our jumping jacks, measure the distance of our jumps, and stretch and pose with yoga.
