Investing in the Future of Play: The Debbie and Jack Blitch Planned Giving Society

The Louisiana Children’s Museum was built on the vision of leaders who believed that every child deserves a space to wonder, grow and play. Few embodied this spirit more than Debbie & Jack Blitch. In honor of Debbie’s extraordinary life and the couple’s shared commitment to our mission, we are proud to establish the Debbie and Jack Blitch Planned Giving Society.

A Legacy of Love and Vision

Even before the Louisiana Children’s Museum opened its doors in 1986, Debbie and Jack Blitch were at the heart of our mission. When a small, visionary group first dreamed of a children’s museum in New Orleans, they approached Jack. As a founding board member and Building Committee Chair, Jack brought technical expertise and a tireless spirit to the project. He traveled the country—from Denver to Baltimore—studying best practices to ensure that our first home in an old warehouse would be a space where children could thrive.

Alongside him was Debbie, whose devotion to children defined her life. Whether she was serving as a dedicated volunteer on the exhibit floor, teaching kindergarteners, or mentoring generations of young relatives at her pier in Bay St. Louis, Debbie fostered curiosity, joy, and learning in everyone she met.

Though they did not have children of their own, Debbie and Jack dedicated their 50-year marriage to the wellbeing of children. Their generosity spanned community organizations across New Orleans and, later, in Florida, always focusing on the future of our youth.

Plant the Seed for Future Generations

In 1996, Debbie and Jack made a profound commitment by including the Louisiana Children’s Museum in their estate plans. At the time, this was a unique and pioneering form of support for the museum. By establishing the Debbie and Jack Blitch Planned Giving Society, we honor that original seed of generosity and invite you to join us in securing the future of the museum.

Planned gifts are not just financial contributions; they are an enduring investment in the play-based learning and environmental stewardship that define the LCM. By including the museum in your estate plans, you become a guardian of our mission, ensuring that generations of children continue to have a place to dream, explore, and grow.
