Get ready for a summer day of eco-action! Young explorers and their grown-up companions are invited to join Cox Communications and the Louisiana Children’s Museum on Saturday, August 1, 2026, for a day of hands-on fun that inspires kids to protect our planet.
Bring your small electronics for our special e-cycling drive and explore sustainability through creative eco-activities like building a Cardboard City, creating art from recycled materials, becoming Water Harvesting Heroes, Can Crushing, planting and playing, sorting recyclables, enjoying eco-story time, and dancing it out at the Planet Play Wiggle Party.
It’s play with a purpose! Kids and their caregivers can explore and learn how small actions can make a big difference for our planet.

What to Expect
Planet Protectors, hosted by LCM and presented by Cox Communications, turns sustainability into an adventure for the whole family. Throughout the day, young Planet Protectors and their grown-up companions can explore interactive experiences, discover ways to care for our planet, and participate in hands-on activities that inspire everyday eco-friendly actions.
Special Electronics Recycling Drive – Open to Everyone
Drop-off will be available in LCM’s bus loading zone. Tickets and Museum access are not required to participate in electronic recycling.
Accepted Items:
- Desktops/Laptops
- Mobile phones
- Modems/Routers
- TV/Stereo remotes
- Small electronics toys or games
- Computer accessories like keyboards and monitors
Not Accepted: CRT monitors, large appliances (refrigerators, washers, dryers, microwaves, stoves, etc.)

- Cardboard City – Build, paint, and design a mini metropolis while discovering how creativity and reuse can shape a more sustainable future.
- Recycled Materials Art Project – Turn everyday recycled materials into one-of-a-kind masterpieces through imaginative, hands-on artmaking.
- Water Harvesting Heroes – Learn how to capture, collect, and reuse rainwater through interactive demonstrations with miniature houses.
- Can Crushing Activity – Bring aluminum cans from home and experience the power of recycling through this fun, hands-on activity.
- We invite guests to bring their clean, ready-to-recycle aluminum cans for our Can Crushing Station!
- Plant and Play – Dig into gardening, watering, and weeding while learning how plants and pollinators help our local ecosystems thrive.
- Recyclables Sorting (Ages 0–3) – Our youngest Planet Protectors can explore sustainability through a playful sensory activity focused on sorting by shape, color, and texture.
- Eco-Story Time – Enjoy immersive stories that celebrate conservation, nature, and ways to protect our planet.
- Planet Play Wiggle Party – End the day with a high-energy dance celebration that brings families together to move, play, and celebrate Earth.
