What’s New This Month

January Playtime

Thursday, January 16, 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.: Sensory-Friendly Playtime

At LCM, we are committed to building stronger, more connected communities through active engagement. We welcome all families and children of all backgrounds and circumstances. We offer a playtime for families that provides a low-sensory experience where children with sensory-specific needs can explore the Museum without the noise, crowds, and stimulation of typical open hours. We limit the number of families who can attend, turn down sounds and lights, and provide adaptive equipment such as noise-reducing headphones and weighted vests. When available, specialists will be on hand to help facilitate activities and provide resources. Register to attend.

 Friday, January 3, 17, and 31 from 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.: Food Science Friday

Join us in Follow That Food for fun kitchen experiments.  These projects will teach you concepts in various learning areas like science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and art. Guests will get to engage with food in an all-new way!

Thursday, January 9, 10 a.m.: In Dialogue: Tools for Building a Healthy Family in the New Year

Join us for this month’s In Dialogue. We’ll hear from Eric “Doc” Griggs, MD, International Health and Wellness Ambassador, who will share tools for building a healthy new year.  He will also discuss how to help children process the recent events in New Orleans. Register to watch on Zoom or check our resources where the video will be posted.

Saturday, January 11, 10:00 a.m.: Master Naturalist Nature Walk

Explore Our Big Backyard with a Louisiana Master Naturalist and learn about the amazing animals and plants that call LCM home!

Sunday, January 12: Art For All Day

Thanks to The Helis Foundation Art For All program, Louisiana residents can enjoy free admission to the Louisiana Children’s Museum on the second Sunday of every other month from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tickets go live the Friday before each Art for All day. They are limited in number and must be reserved in advance, for both general admission visitors and LCM members.

Art for All day is one of the ways LCM promotes access for all. To help us achieve this goal, we reserve only a limited number of tickets for LCM members, ensuring that everyone has a chance to experience the museum.

Each new year presents us with new joys and challenges, and the symbolic zodiac animal each year inspires us to reflect on its special traits and gifts. 2025 is the year of the Snake, representing wisdom, intuition, and transformation. In which ways will you share your luck with your friends and family this year? Bring your best new year’s wishes to our Studio in the Park for our Lunar New Year interactive art activity where you will also have an opportunity to share your own Lunar New Year traditions or learn about the new year traditions that stem from parts of China, Vietnam, and other Asian countries that observe the Lunar Calendar!

Throughout January: Artist in Residence Sari Jordan

Sari Jordan (they/them) is a vocalist, songwriter, and musician based in New Orleans and originally from New Jersey. Sari’s artistic process and vision is one of whimsy, flexibility, play, and introspection. Sari has always felt at home making music with children, drawn to their natural curiosity, daring, creativity, and emotional expression. Check out Sari’s music wherever you stream and discover live performances.

As an LCM Artist in Residence, Sari will facilitate musical exploration and produce an emergent collection of songs. Their programming spans many topics, including sampling & experimentation, movement, voice, lyrics as poetry, the blues, and improvisation. Sari is looking forward to connecting with museum visitors, exploring music at and around the museum, and co-creating the sounds and ideas that will come together in the first ever LCM album
