Summer in the Swamp is a brand-new camp for grades 6-8! It will immerse participants in hands-on learning and adventure, cultivating environmental stewardship and problem-solving skills in one of the nation’s most unique ecological settings.

Get in touch with the Wild & Wonderful Wetlands at LCM!

Starting on May 16th, the Louisiana Children’s Museum will kick off a new, nature-focused workshop series for young learners ages 10 – 16 years old.  Join us at LCM for our special Summer in the Swamp programming.

These workshops are designed to give middle school students the tools and training they need to safely explore Louisiana’s wetland ecology and tackle real-world environmental challenges.  Using art, science, and technology participants in these workshops will be given opportunities to examine the environmental issues in South Louisiana through hands-on, place-based learning activities. By connecting Earth science and art as a means of communication, LCM encourages young learners to develop creative solutions that raise awareness and inspire others to become Swamp Stewards and Protectors of the Planet.

Each month we will start to explore different artistic mediums, and then students will take over LCM’s Studio in the Park to create multi-media artwork that communicates our experiences in the local environment and illustrates the challenges young people in New Orleans have to face as residents of a coastal city built on unstable, swampy sediment.

Want to join the fun?  To participate in a workshop, caregivers must register in advance by purchasing an event ticket via our website.  Tickets will be released at the beginning of April, so please watch this space!

Workshop topics and logistic details can be found below.  If you have additional questions, please contact Environmental Outreach Coordinator Alahna Moore at amoore@lcm.org.
