What's New!

New Sunday Music Program Just for Toddlers!

Music Together is an internationally-recognized, early-childhood music program for infants through age five and the adults who love them. The program is research based and emphasizes that all children can learn to sing a tune, keep a beat and participate with confidence in school and social musical activities. By providing actual music experiences rather than concepts about music, Music Together introduces children to the pleasure of making music instead of passively receiving it from CDs or TV.

Music Together brings families together by providing a rich musical environment at the Museum and by facilitating family participation in spontaneous musical activity at home. LCM encourages you and your little ones to discover the pleasure and educational value of informal music experiences.

Classes are held in the Times Picayune Theatre and include sharing songs, instrument play, rhythm chants and movement activities in a relaxed, playful, non-performance oriented setting.  You’ll enrich your child’s music environment regardless of your own musical abilities. Children participate at their own level in family-style classes of mixed ages.

Session 4 is ten weeks and runs from September 21 to November 23. Classes are offered at 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. These sessions are very popular so sign up today to reserve your spots. Session fees include an illustrated songbook and 2 CDs (new each session) and a parenting guide to music.

Your Vote Counts!

7/14 thru 11/4

As the 2008 Presidential Election kicks off, LCM wants local kids to join in the fun and feel the importance of having their voices heard. We want to know where kids stand on issues like nutrition, exercise, free time, television and fun - to help us mold the future of the kid nation at LCM. Voting will be held from 9 a.m. to noon and visitors can cast their ballot in one of Louisiana's real-life voting booths. Encourage your child's patriotism with this first try at democracy in action.

1, 2, 3...Special Toddler Days

September

Even if your little one isn't ready for school, September is a great month for building skills at the Museum. The month is full of activities designed to engage babies and toddlers in meaningful play that enhances physical development, language and speech development, and early literacy. Fun, age-appropriate activities are offered Tuesday through Friday in the Times Picayune Theatre at 1:00, 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. Each drop-in session offers three separate activities to engage little ones in different ways including music and song, storytelling, games, finger plays and more.

FUNDRED Dollar Bill Days at LCM!

Saturday September 13 and 27

The Fundred Dollar Bill Project is a collection of "money" artwork created by children to promote environmental awareness. Over three million children around the country have contributed drawings and LCM is a new project site! The goal of the program is to support the efforts of New Orleans rebuilding with a focus on making environmental conditions safer for City residents. Museum visitors can create their own, one-of-a-kind artwork that will travel across the country in the coming months. The artwork eventually will land in Washington, D.C. where the request will be made to turn the art money into actual dollars for post-Katrina New Orleans. The goal is $3 million by the end of 2009. Be sure to stop by LCM to see the art, create your own and support rebuilding in New Orleans neighborhoods.
