Champions on the Move Week
Tues-Fri, 1/29-2/1 (9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.)
Get ready for the Super Bowl in New Orleans like a champion in training! Join in physical fitness challenges and Let’s Move activities throughout the week. Learn how staying active keeps you healthy while you’re having fun! At 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., join us for a Story Time reading of Family Huddle by Peyton, Eli and Archie Manning. Make a mini Lombardi Trophy in our Art Trek studio.
African American Heritage Week & Festival
Tues-Fri. 2/19-2/22 (9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.) (Week)
Saturday, 2/23 (11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.) (Festival)
Celebrate the African American cultural heritage of New Orleans all week through hands-on activities, Toddler Times, Story Times and Fetch! Science experiments. At 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. daily, enjoy a Story Time reading of The Red Feather by Sherry “Leddy” Milam. Contribute to a collaborative Kente Cloth in our Art Trek studio.
This celebratory week will culminate with a festival on Saturday from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., with live performances, hands-on activities and food tastings. “Shop” for fruit and vegetables at a traditional “African Market” presented by the Umoja Committee. Dress up in traditional African children’s garb as you learn from Umoja Committee members how to properly wear the clothing. Once you’re dressed up, look in the mirror to see yourself as a beautiful African Child. Enjoy first-hand the vibrant costumes, songs and dance of the Young Guardians of the Flame Mardi Gras Indian Tribe through a live performance.
Dino Week & FETCH! Supersaurus Saturday

T-Rexes, Triceratops and Velociraptors, Oh My! Get your fill of dinosaur fun all week long through hands-on activities, Toddler Times, Story Times and Fetch science activities. At 11:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m. daily, enjoy a Story Time reading of Dinosaurs Big and Small by Kathleen Weidner Zoehfeld.
Continue the fun on Saturday from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. for FETCH! Supersaurus Saturday where you can become a junior paleontologist as you learn about dinosaurs from members of the New Orleans Geological Society. Feel authentic dinosaur bones as you explore NOGS’ Fossil Collection. View life-size skulls of t-rex, raptors, allosaurus, and plant eating dinosaurs. Dig for dinosaur bones in a sand box. Walk in dinosaur footprints. Younger children can participate in these activities to earn stamps on their Challenge Scorecard and turn the completed card in for a prize. Older children can participate in a Supersaurus Scavenger Hunt to earn a prize. In Art Trek, make a marine fossil print and stencil and color your very own dinosaur skulls and footprints.
Earth Week
Tues. April 17 to Fri. 20 (9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.)
Learn about eco-friendly alternatives and ways to preserve our earth. We will strive to make our visitors aware of many of the environmental issues that our particular region faces and more!
